AUSTRIA. Conversion of Elisabeth Christina to Catholicism Silver Medal, 1707.
Brockmann 358, Fiala 1717. Diameter: 44.3mm. Obverse: Bust of Elisabeth Christina, right, perimeter legend; Reverse: Two altars with burning censers, Elisabeth standing between holding a burning censer, radiant name of God above, perimeter legend above, legend in exergue below. As a condition of her marriage to Archduke Charles, the Lutheran Elisabeth Cristina of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel had to convert to Catholicism. Charles, contesting the Spanish throne was living in Barcelona and that is where the wedding took place. Their eldest son was short-lived, their next child was Maria Theresa, future empress. Lightly worn warm gray surfaces with scattered marks commensurate with the grade. Interesting and attractive.
