T• ERTEL / IN / MÜNCHEN• / 1833• in four lines; around, PROBE DES THALERPRÄGWERKES - F• D• KÖN• MÜNZE IN GRIECHENLAND• (= Test Strike of the Thaler Striking Machinery for the Royal Mint in Greece). The 29 meter tall Obelisk shown on this trial strike is the well-known momument located at the Karolinenplatz in Munich; it was designed by Leo von Klenze in 1833. It is dedicated to the 30,000 Bavarian soldiers who gave their lives during the Russian campaign of Napoleon I.
