ISLAMIC, 'Abbasid Caliphate. Al-Ma'mun, AH 193-218 / AD 809-833. Dirham (Silver, 25 mm, 2.85 g, 9 h), Naysabur (Nishapur), AH 197 = 812/3. 'lā ilāha illā / Allāh waḥdahū / lā sharīka lahū' ('There is no deity but Allah, the One, there is no partner to Him. The East' in Arabic); in the margin, 'bism Allāh ḍuriba hādhā al-dirham bi madīnat Naysābūr sana sabʿ wa tisʿīn wa miʾa' ('In the name of Allah. This dirham was struck in the city of Naysabur in the year 197' in Arabic); citing the Caliph's personal name ʿAbd Allāh in Arabic at 6 o'clock in outer margin. Rev. Citing vizier [al-Fadl] Dhu'l-Riyasatayn, 'li-llāh / Muḥammad / rasūl / Allāh / Dhu'l-Riyāsatayn' ('To Allah. Muhammad is the messenger of Allah. Dhu'l-Riyasatayn' in Arabic); in the margin, 'Muḥammad rasūl Allāh arsalahū bi al-hudā wa dīn al-ḥaqq liyuẓhirahū ʿalā al-dīn kullih wa law kariha al-mushrikūn' ('Muhammad is the messenger of Allah. He sent him with guidance and the religion of truth, so that He may make it overcome all religions, even though the unbelievers may dislike it' in Arabic). Album 223.4 (taken as anonymous). Rare.
