'lā ilāha illā / Allāh waḥdahū / lā sharīka lahū' ('There is no deity but Allah, the One, there is no partner to Him' in Arabic); in the margin, 'bism Allāh ḍuriba hādhā al-dirham bi madīnat Marw sana khams wa thamānīn wa miʾa' ('In the name of Allah. This dirham was struck in the city of Marw in the year 185' in Arabic). Rev. Citing his son al-Amin Muhammad, and governor ʿAli, 'ʿAlī / Muḥammad rasūl / Allāh ṣalla Allāh ʿalayh wa sallam / mimmā amara bihī al-amīr al-Amīn / Muḥammad ibn amīr al-muʾminīn' ('ʿAli. Muhammad is the messenger of Allah. May Allah bless him and grant him peace.
