| Lot description: ISLAMIC, Umayyad Caliphate. temp. 'Abd al-Malik ibn Marwan, AH 65-86 / AD 685-705. Dirham (Silver, 23 mm, 2.74 g, 7 h), al-Sus, AH 80 = 699/700. 'lā ilāha i/llā Allāh' ('There is no deity but Allah' in Arabic); around, 'Muḥammad rasūl Allāh arsalahū bi al-hudā wa dīn al-ḥaqq' ('Muhammad is the messenger of Allah. He sent him with guidance and the religion of truth' in Arabic). Rev. 'wa huwa / al-raḥmān / al-raḥīm' ('And He [i.e. Allah] is the Beneficent, the Merciful' in Arabic); around, 'ḍuriba hādhā al-dirham bi al-Sūs fī sana thamānīn' ('This dirham was struck in al-Sus in the year 80' in Arabic).
