Lot description:

2022 Christmas Gold Sixpence. 24 karat. Queen Elizabeth II. Trial of the Pyx Test Piece. #2 of 6. Jessopp Facsimile Signature Label. Brilliant Proof (NGC).
6.19 g of .999 Gold. 19.41mm. Featuring a delicate floral motif, the reverse displays Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II's royal cypher surrounded by apple and orange blossom for good fortune. First appearing in 1551 during the reign of Henry VIII's son, Edward VI, virtually no other coin has been an enduring part of British culture quite like the sixpence. It remains inextricably linked to a British Christmas, where tradition dictates that a sixpence is placed inside the pudding before it is cooked and the person who finds the coin in their piece on Christmas Day can look forward to good fortune in the year to come. This special gold striking is meant to celebrate this tradition with extra desirability that will appeal to all collectors. This coin is #2 of only 6 such examples in this Trial of the Pyx offering.

From a Collection of Historic Test Pieces from the 2023 Trial of the Pyx, Presented on Behalf of The Royal Mint.
