Prince Henry, brother of Charles Edward Stuart, was the fourth and final direct male descendant of the Stuart royal line to publicly claim the throned of Great Britain and Ireland. After Charles death in January 1788, the Papacy did not recognize Henry as the legitimate ruler of Great Britain and Ireland, instead referring to him as Cardinal Duke of York.
