Lot description: England. William and Mary (1688-1694). Coronation Festivities in Rotterdam, 1689. Dutch Medal. Silver, 32.5mm. Palm tree behind supported City Arms, cityview and maritime scene in distance, rev. People gathered in festivity, statue of Erasmus at left, triumphal arch behind with bust of William in pediment and legend PRINCIPI PATRIAE QUE on architrave, date 1689 below. According to MI, a great feast was held in Rotterdam "where the statue of Erasmus is erected" (in the Grotekerkplein) and these medals were distributed to the attendees. MI i 378/55. Rare. Toned.
