ANGLO-SAXON, Kings of Wessex. Eadred. 946-955. AR Penny (21mm, 1.38 g, 6h). Bust Crowned (BC) type (BMC v). Uncertain mint; Sperling, moneyer. Crowned bust right / + SPERELNC + NONI (S horizontal, P inverted), small cross pattée. CTCE 265; SCBI 34 (BM), 713; North 713; SCBC 1115; Locket English IV, lot 3703 = Clonterbrook Trust, lot 41; EMC 2021.0019. Toned, a few very light scratches, areas of weak strike. Good VF. Extremely rare – only three others known, from different dies to the present specimen.
