| Lot description: Venezuela Republic 10 Reales 1863-A VF Details (Edge Damage) NGC, Paris mint, KM-YA11, Stohr-31, OAV-10RP. A veritable key of the entire Venezuelan series and an incredibly storied issue, with a proposed mintage of 300,000 and subsequent melting of the majority of the issuance, with Ortega proposing only 20 or so survivors. Featuring the infamous leader General José Antonio Páez, ruling Venezuela sporadically throughout the mid-19th century, culminating in a final exile in 1863 and reason for the scarcity of this issue. While this piece has experienced a handful of conditional qualifiers, the importance of this very coin, whose appearance at auction in the last two decades has been approximately only four other times, remains undiminished. As one of just five currently certified by NGC, we anticipate an elevated bidder response from the Latin American Crown collector or a Venezuelan specialist. General José Antonio Páez, a central figure in Venezuela's fight for independence from Spain, is celebrated not only for his role in shaping Venezuela's early political landscape but also for his brief but noteworthy contribution to the country's numismatic history. During his presidency in the mid-19th century, Paez authorized the production of what are now considered some of Venezuela's most elusive and desirable coins. The coinage of this era, succinct but resonant, emphasizes the country's assertion of sovereignty and cultural identity, presenting powerful symbols that entirely align with Paez's indomitable spirit.
