Fals (Bronze, 12,5 mm, 2.10 g), 'Abbasid Governors of Egypt, struck under Mahfuz as minister of finance and Salih as prefect, no mint mentioned, but certainly Misr (Kairo), AH 186-187 = 802-803 AD. Double circle enclosing star within octofoil with pellet in each angle; in the outer margin (barely seen here), "Muhammad rassul Allah 'ala yidi Salih" ("Muhammad is the apostle of Allah. From the hands of Salih"). Rev. Palm branch flanked by stars at left and right; in upper field, bakh bakh ("very good"); on the outer margin in square margin, arranged in square; "bism Allah / mimma amara bihi / al-amir / Mahfuz" ("In the name of Allah, from that ordered by the amir Mahfuz"). Album 281. Miles 20. SICA 1583-1585. Very rare; a particularly unusual iconographic Islamic coin. About very fine.
