Roettier, young bust l., rev. radiant sun, partially eclipsed, shines over a calm sea, CLARIORE E TENEBRIS, 25.5mm. (MI 193/501; Woolf 14:3; Eimer 374), very fine; Vatican, Benedict XIV (1740-1758), Prospero Lorenzo Lambertini, Memorial to Princess Maria Clementina Sobieska (1702-1735), wife of James [III], the Old Pretender, copper medal, 1743 (Year 3), by Ottone Hamerani, bust of Pope right, in cap and cope, rev. the monument in the Vatican, 34.5mm. (MI.570/204; Woolf 45:2; Eimer 570; Lincoln 1812), nearly extremely fine (2) The monument, designed by Filippo Barigioni, was erected in the Vatican eight years after her death, at the expense of the Reverenda Fabbrica di S. Pietro. The figures were sculpted by Pietro Bracchi; the mosaic by Pietro Paolo Cristofari based on an oil painting by Ignaz Stern, whilst the gold decoration was the work of Francesco Giardoni.
