ANGLO-SAXON, Kings of All England. Æthelred II. 978-1016. AR Penny (21mm, 1.40 g, 4h). Long Cross type (BMC iva, Hild. D). Leicester mint; Wulfgeat, moneyer. Struck circa 997-1003. Draped bust left; pellet behind neck / + VLE GET M'Θ L IHFR, voided long cross, with pellet at center and triple-crescent ends. SCBI 36 (Berlin), 360 (same dies); North 774; SCBC 1151. Light iridescent toning, a few minor scratches, a few peck marks, slightly weak strike on obverse. Near VF. Rare.
