| Lot description: France Carolingian. Odo (887-898) Denier ND MS62 NGC, Blois mint, Roberts-1652, MEC 1-980. Appealing patina given the type, with wholly original surfaces. A premium example with a typewritten Newman Collection pedigree envelope. Odo (857?-898), previously the Count of Paris, was the elected King of West Francia and crowned in 888.Unlike the portrayal in television's "Vikings," Odo led the siege of Paris against the Northmen successfully, resulting in his election and not dying in the convenient for TV manner.
