Lot description: LAOS: Vientiane, AR tamlung (59.99g), ca. 1795-1828, Mitch--, Daniel-L2I (plate example), 87mm, lat ingot coinage (also known as tiger tongue), stamped with the Lanna letter ha, the unalom mark of Rama I (1782-1809) of Siam, and a couple chops, a very interesting piece! VF, RR, ex Howard A. Daniel III Collection. The reason for the additional stamp is uncertain, but Daniel reports (p.22) that this type of ingot was paid by Vientiane to its Siamese overlord as a tax payment. Most of them were subsequently melted down and made into pot duang (bullet money). Estimate: 150-200 USD Starting price: 130 USD |
