Lot description: ERITREA: Umberto I, 1889-1900, AR 5 lire / tallero, 1896, KM-4, two-year type, very faint hairlines, attractive golden toning, NGC graded AU details. The tallero (= thaler) or rial was the currency of Eritrea between 1890 and 1921. It was worth five lire and was subdivided into ten decimi. 80,069 coins of the total mintage of both dates of this type were later taken out of circulation and melted down.
