UMAYYAD: AE fals (2.45g), al-Sus, ND, A-G205, classic Umayyad period design, with the kalima divided between obverse & reverse, Arabic word rawâj ("current") below the obverse, the mint name below the reverse; unpublished and apparently the first known Umayyad fals of al-Sus, F-VF, RRR. Al-Sus is well attested for Arab-Sasanian copper pashiz, with most or all the legends in Pahlavi, and for Abbasid fulus dated AH151-173.

Likely from eastern Khorasan or Tokharistan. This is the fourth reported Umayyad fals with Bactrian letters; the first appeared in our Auction 43, Lot 209.

GREAT MONGOLS: Anonymous, ca. 1220s-1230s, AV dinar (4.43g), Bukhara, ND, A-1966, obverse legend qa'an / yarlighi, kalima reverse, with the mint name above the reverse field; probably undated; unpublished and the first discovery of this type, VF-EF, RRRR. The phrase "qa'an yarlighi" means "by order of the Khan". This is first Great Mongol coin we have heard of that bears the word "yarlighi" that appears on some Timurid coins in the name of Timur, especially the common miris struck at Samarqand from the AH780s to the early 800s.
