JAMAICA. Jamaica - Jamaica - Santo Domingo. 1/11 Real, ND (ca. 1582). Philip II. PCGS Genuine--Environmental Damage, Fine Details.
Cal-type 32 # 84 (under Philip III). Purportedly issued by local ordinance of 1582, revaluing at 1/11 of a Real, authorized under the Marquis of Jamaica. Countermark: Anchor and Key; the anchor indicated the Columbus family, who the Marquis was a member. Applied to the reverse of a undated Santo Domingo 4 Maravedis of Carlos and Johanna (Cal-Type 13 # 33), variety with value as "4". A previous "Key" countermark purportedly from a local ordinance of 1577 by instruction of the court of Santo Domingo revaluing at 2 Maravedis.
