Obverse: Eagles (Poland and Holy Roman Empire) and winged lion of St. Mark (Republic of Venice) descend upon and tear apart hound (Ottoman Empire); Reverse: Crowned, armored, and mantled standing figures of King John III Sobieski (Poland), Emperor Leopold I (Holy Roman Empire), and Doge Marcantonio Giustinian (Republic of Venice), holding swords and chain. A SCARCE and provocative allegorical medal, this example presents a deep cabinet tone along with a great deal of lustrous brilliance and only lightly scattered hairlines.

POLAND. Peace of Oliva Silver Medal, 1660. ABOUT UNCIRCULATED Details--Tooling, Edge Marks.
H-Cz-2148. By J. Hohn the Younger. Diameter: 78mm; Weight: 106.01 gms. Commemorating the peace between Poland, Sweden, Brandenburg, and the Holy Roman Empire. Obverse: Panoramic veduta of Danzig, including fortifications and the Vistula with ships at sail, radiant personification of the sun and rainbow above, and a fenced corn field with hidden weapons in foreground; Reverse: Legend in 17 lines; below, garnished coat-of-arms, with lions as supporters. Despite some tooling and edge marks, this impressive example stands as a VERY RARE and desirable type, with entrancing brilliance residing in the fields. The artistry of the obverse is especially intricate, making this a resounding piece of 17th century medallic art.

Bernheimer-130; Montenuovo-1540. By G. Vestner. On the naval victory of the English (allied with the Holy Roman Empire, France, and the Dutch Republic) warships at Cape Passero over the Spanish fleet. Obverse: Eagle pursuing five ravens; two other dead ravens on ground; Reverse: Naval engagement between two ships; in background to left, partial outline of Sicily, with Syracuse and Messina mentioned. Smoothing and tooling in the fields; suspension loop attached.
