Lot description: The Quidenham Hoard of 10th Century Silver Pennies | Wessex, Edward the Elder (899-924), Penny, + EADVVEARD REX S, finely incised laureate and draped bust left, rev. (trefoil) + (trefoil) | FRIEIEB | + + + | EICNDI | (trefoil) + (trefoil), in two lines divided by row of three cross pattées, 1.59g [24.54grns], 3h (PAS NMS-F38064 = BM 2020T219, no. 7 this coin; North 651; Spink 1084), superficial scratches from soil deposition, otherwise of excellent metal, uniformly bold for strike albeit for softness to hair, very fine or near so, very rare. Provenance, Found as part of a scattered hoard at Quidenham, Breckland District (Norfolk), Friday 20 December 2019, ~ Recorded with Dr Adrian Marsden at the Norfolk Museum, (refs. INDJG13012020AM = SMR 60596 = PAS NMS-F38064) ~, ~ Reported to the British Museum under the Treasure Act [1996], (ref.
