The Quidenham Hoard of 10th Century Silver Pennies | Wessex, Edward the Elder (899-924), Penny, + EADVVEA REX, finely incised laureate and draped bust left, rev. + | MEIOCR | + + + | MEICIO | + in two lines divided by row of three cross pattées, 1.39g [21.45grns], 12h (PAS NMS-88D191 = BM 2014T769, no. 3 same dies; PAS NMS-F38064 = BM 2020T219, no. 4 this coin; SCBI 26 [East Anglia], 762-764 same dies [Morley St Peter]; North 651; Spink 1084), bend to flan, otherwise patchy 'field toned' with a handsomely uniform and bold strike, of excellent metal, approaching extremely fine with an outstanding portrait, very rare.
