Great Britain
Anne silver "Battle of Blenheim" Medal 1704 MS64 PCGS, Eimer-407, Julius-658. 37.3mm. By George Hautsch. On the Battle of Blenheim, a major battle of the War of the Spanish Succession. The overwhelming Allied victory at the Battle of Blenheim secured Vienna from the hands of the Franco-Bavarian army and deterred the disbanding of the joint forces of England, the Dutch Republic, and the Archduchy of Austria. On the obverse is depicted the armored half-length portrait of John Churchill, 1st Duke of Marlborough (1650-1722), ancestor of Sir Winston Churchill, and on the reverse the avenging figure of Mars, seated upon a cannon, lends inspiration to a mighty soldier. Rare so fine and with a beautiful patina, a slight curvature to the obverse field adding a slight rolling effect to the already ample luster. The finest submitted to PCGS and covetable as such.
