Lot description:

German States
Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen. Carl Anton Proof Pattern Gulden 1850 PR64 Cameo NGC, KM-Unl, AKS-19 var (Pattern of such type). Plain edge, J-P51. A survivor from this "Geschenkgulden"--Gift Gulden-- a princely presentation type of which only 19 were struck after Carl Anton's abdication, Prussia taking possession on March 12, 1850. Highly reflective and attractively toned, this piece stands as the sole finest recorded by NGC. According to Jim Elmen, this piece was owned by Elvira Clain-Steffranelli, director of the Smithsonian Numismatic Dept. It was later sold by her sons at auction.
