ANGLO-SAXON, Kings of All England. Æthelred II. 978-1016. AR Penny (20mm, 1.68 g, 12h). Long Cross type (BMC iva, Hild. D). Oxford mint; Wulfwine, moneyer. Struck circa 997-1003. Draped bust left / + PVL FPI(NE) M'O O N OXN, voided long cross, with pellet at center and triple-crescent ends. Stainer 19; SCBI 9 (Ashmolean), 573 (same dies); North 774; SCBC 1151. Richly toned, slight weakness on front of profile, slight wave. EF.
