Lot description: ANGLO-SAXON, Kings of All England. Eadgar. 959-975. AR Halfpenny (16mm, 0.60 g, 12h). London mint. Struck circa 959-967/8. EADG + AR RE, crude bust right / Londonia monogram; cross above, pellet to left triangle of pellets below. CTCE 394; SCBI 68 (Lyon), 753 (same dies); North 753; SCBC 1140B. Toned. Good VF. A high grade example of this intriguing issue. Extremely rare. From the Causeway Collection, purchased from T. Owen. A fascinating type harkening back to the London issues of Alfred the Great.
