ANGLO-SAXON, Kings of Mercia. Coenwulf. 796-821. AR Penny (20mm, 1.53 g, 9h). Portrait type. Canterbury mint; Deormod, moneyer. Struck circa 810-821. + COENVVLF REX m, diademed and draped bust right / + DIORmOD mONETA, double pincer-shaped cross superimposed on cross pommée; wedges in angles. Naismith 39.1; SCBI 67 (BM), 152-4; North 347; SCBC 916. Pleasing coin with fresh surfaces and faint deposits. Good VF. Rare.
