ANGLO-SAXON, Kings of Mercia. Eadberht. Bishop of London, circa 776-787/9. AR Penny (16mm, 1.13 g). Light coinage, non-portrait, with Offa as overlord. London mint. Struck circa 776-782. ·: OF :· ·: FA :· inward from left to right, ·: + R :· ·: EX :· outward from right to left, large lozenge with incurved sides and trefoils in inner terminals; at center, petal-cross with trefoils in angles within plain circle / ЄAD/BERH/T (ЄP) divided by three beaded lines. Chick 81d = PAS NLM-4B4EB4 (this coin); SCBI 67 (BM), 736 (same obv. die); North 278; SCBC 911. Toned, porosity, slight bend and crack. VF. Very rare.
