R/Ment 69486 Tpr J Hartwell NZMR on first two medals, the third to seventh medals unnamed, R/Ment Major J M J Hartwell WWCT on last medal. The first two medals impressed, the last medal engraved. Court mounted, a few ribbons damaged, the first medal with dark toned areas, otherwise very fine - good very fine. James Montague Job Hartwell, farmer, born 02Jan1897 at Waitotara, South Taranaki; Enl.17Oct1917; Emb.23Apr1918 with 37 Rfts Mounted Rifles Brigade, NZEF; RTNZ 20Apr1919; Disch.04Sep1919 Medically Unfit due to malaria; continued service in the Army and served in WWII under Service No.69162; to 2/Lieut 15Sep1928; to Capt 04May1936; to Major 01Nov1940; rising to rank of Major; placed on Reserve of Officers 30Aug1944; to Wellington West Coast and Taranaki Regt 08Oct1948; awarded Efficiency Decoration 12Feb1952 while on Retired List; Died 07Aug1988 at Whanganui, Manawatu-Wanganui; Buried at Aramoho Cemetery, Whanganui, Manawatu.
