(x) South India, Karnataka, late Hoysala/early Vijayanagar (c. 10-17th century), gold Viraraya Fanam, lion (sardula) standing right, under crescent, rev. stylised Viraraya design, 0.38g (Mitchiner, Southern India, Part 1, 324; Krishna (MAR 1929) pl. 9, nos. 8-10), good very fine; Copper Unit, 1.37g, elephant, rev. ornamental floral scroll, (cf. Mitch, Karnataka 200), about very fine; Nayaks of Chitradurga, (c. 1565-1779) gold Viraraya Fanam (6), crescent now tall and lion narrow, rev. Viraraya design, 0.37g; 0.37g; 0.37g; 0.38g; 0.38g; 0.37g (Herrli, Fanams 1.04), one of centre and another with edge crack, yet mostly pleasingly struck, very fine to extremely fine; Dutch East India Company, Negapatnam silver Fanam, 0.76g, stylised figure of Kali, rev. recumbent J, OC above, (KM 30), clear strike, good very fine (9).

ii) Copper Unit: At this period copper coins were not being struck for use in Karnataka, as noted by Mitchiner it is therefore believed types such as these were struck for use circulated in Tamilnadu.
