Didius Julianus, 193. Denarius (Silver, 17 mm, 2.66 g, 11 h). IMP CAES M DID IVLIAN AVG Laureate head of Didius Julianus to right. Rev. P M TR P COS Fortuna standing front, head turned to left, holding rudder set on globe in her right hand and cornucopia in her left. BMC 6. Cohen 10. RIC 2. Fine portrait and very rare. Reverse struck from a somewhat worn die, otherwise, very fine.



Reportedly, the last words uttered by Julianus before he was dispatched by soldiers supporting Septimius Severus were: "But what evil have I done? Whom have I killed?" (Cassius Dio, Epitome of Book LXXIV, Loeb Classical Library, translated by E. Cary).
