| Lot description: Ancient coins Roman Republic Julius Caesar, died 44 BC, Aureus, Rome, early 46 BC, praetor A. Hirtius, C CAESAR COS TER / A HIRTIUS PR, veiled female, emblems of the augurate and pontificate: lituus, capis, and securis, Cr. 466/1, Syd. 1018, Calicó 36, 8.00 g, small traces of mounting. Appealing and detailed specimen with some luster on large flan. EF-VF Aulus Hirtius served Caesar as legate in Gaul from c. 54, as envoy to Pompey around 50 and during the Civil War 48-45. He was mintmaster in Rome from 46. After the death of Ceasar in 44, he became Consul in 43, but died fighting the same year, when his army defeated Marc Antony.
