Remarkable specimen of an interesting coin that pays homage to the father of the moneyer, who was also Pompey's son-in-law. After his victory against Mithridates VI of Pontus in 85, the dictator Lucius Cornelius Sulla Felix (138-78 BC) had given a feast in honour of Hercules, offering a tenth of his assets to the god. He had previously credited Diana for his victory against Gaius Norbanus in 82, consecrating a renowned healing source to the goddess.
