Lot description: Q. Pomponius Musa, 56 BC. Denarius (Silver, 17 mm, 3.88 g, 5 h), Rome. Laureate head of Apollo to right; behind, scepter. Rev. [Q]•POMPONI / [M]VSA Melpomene, the Muse of Tragedy, standing facing, head right, wearing sword at her waist, holding a club with her right hand and tragic mask in her left. Babelon (Pomponia) 14. Crawford 410/4. RBW 1486. Sydenham 816. Nicely toned. Some scratches and with a banker's mark on the obverse, otherwise, good very fine.
