VISIGOTHS. Gaul. Theoderic I (AD 425-455). AV solidus (21mm, 4.43 gm, 6h). NGC Choice XF 5/5 - 2/5, scratches. Pseudo-Imperial, Second Series, in the name of Valentinian III, uncertain mint, possibly Spain-Aquitaine, copying Ravenna, ca. AD 439-455. D N PLA VALENTI-•NIANVS P F AVG, rosette-diademed, draped, and cuirassed bust of Valentinian III right, seen from front; rosette above / VICTORI-A AVGGG, emperor standing facing in military dress, grounded cross in right hand, stylized Victory standing left on globe in left, right foot placed on man-headed serpent; R-V across fields, COMOB in exergue. RIC X 3718 var. (pellet on obverse). Highly attractive style.
