Seal (Lead, 29 mm, 14.56 g, 11 h). ...-ΔH/MH/TP/IO, Saint Demetrios standing facing, nimbate, holding spear in his right hand and resting his left on shield. Rev. +KЄ R,Θ, / KⲰN RE[C]/TAPX KAT[Є]/ΠAN, MЄΛ[ITH]/NHC S A[NA]/ΓPAΦ, in six lines; above and below, decorations. DO Seals IV, 68.5. Zacos I 60. Zacos II 438. Breakage along the channel, otherwise, very fine. From a European collection, formed before 2005. The city of Melitene was recaptured from the Arabs in 934 and became the center of an important theme, both militarily and administratively.
