Lot description: UNCERTAIN GERMANIC TRIBES, Aurum Barbarorum. Late 3rd-early 4th centuries. 'Aureus' (Subaeratus, 20 mm, 2.67 g, 6 h), 'Plated Group'. Imitating Probus (?), 276-282. IIIIO - IIH Laureate and cuirassed imperial bust to left. Rev. II IƧIΘ Θ / ΘƧΘ Two male figures standing left and right; the one on the right holds a long scepter ending in a knot in his right hand; the one on the left holds a shorter scepter ending in a 'treetop' in his right hand and places an uncertain object on a tripod between them. Aurum Barbarorum -, cf II, 1913 = IV, 409 (same reverse die, but differing obverse type). Pierced and with minor breaks in plating, otherwise, good very fine. Estimate: 250 CHF |
