Justinian I, 527-565. Solidus (Gold, 21 mm, 4.51 g, 6 h), Constantinopolis, circa 537-542. D N IVSTINI-ANVS P P AVG Pearl-diademed, helmeted and cuirassed bust of Justinian I facing, holding globus cruciger in his right hand and with a shield, decorated with horseman attacking a fallen foe, over his left shoulder. Rev. VICTORI-A AVGGG I / CONOB Angel standing facing, holding long linear cross in his right hand and globus cruciger in his left; in field to right, star. DOC 8h. MIBE 6. SB 139. An exceptionally fresh example with mirror-like surfaces. Virtually as struck.
