Anastasius I, 491-518. Solidus (Gold, 20 mm, 4.49 g, 6 h), Constantinopolis, circa 492-507. D N ANASTA-SIVS P P AVG Pearl-diademed, helmeted and cuirassed bust of Anastasius I facing, his head turned slightly to right, holding spear in his right hand and a shield, decorated with a horseman spearing a fallen foe, over his left shoulder. Rev. VICTORI-A AVGGG I / CONOB Victory standing front, head to left, holding long jeweled cross in her right hand; in field to right, star. DOC 3i. MIBE 4a. SB 3. A lustrous, sharply struck and perfectly centered example. Thin die break and very light doubling on the reverse, otherwise, virtually as struck.


Ex Leu 13, 27 May 2023, 379 and previously from a European collection, formed before 2005.
