Lot description: KINGS OF MACEDON. Alexander III 'the Great', 336-323 BC. Stater (Gold, 19 mm, 8.52 g, 12 h), Sinope, circa 230-200. Head of Athena to right, wearing Corinthian helmet decorated with a coiled serpent. Rev. AΛEΞANΔΡOΥ Nike standing front, head to left, with her wings spread, holding laurel wreath in her right hand and stylis in her left; to left, eight-rayed star; below left wing, monogram above ΣΙ; below right wing, ΦI. Price 1239. Extremely rare. Lustrous and fresh. Light die rust and with faint surface marks, otherwise, virtually as struck. From a European collection, formed before 2005. Estimate: 3000 CHF |
