Lot description: KINGS OF MACEDON. Alexander III 'the Great', 336-323 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 28 mm, 17.13 g, 9 h), Amphipolis (?), struck under Kassander, circa 316-311. Head of Herakles to right, wearing lion skin headdress. Rev. AΛEΞANΔPOY Zeus seated left on low throne, holding long scepter in his left hand and eagle standing right with closed wings in his right; in field to left, thunderbolt; below throne, pellet-in-Π. Price 138. Troxell, Studies, L9. A very rare variety. Beautifully toned and struck in high relief. Very light doubling on the reverse, otherwise, good extremely fine. Ex Roma VII, 22 March 2014, 410.
