Lot description: MACEDON. Akanthos. Circa 460-450 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 28 mm, 17.21 g, 12 h). Lion right, attacking a bull collapsing to left with upraised head; above, ivy leaf; in exergue, stylized akanthos flower. Rev. AKA-N-ΘIO-N Raised quadripartite square surrounded by inscription; all within shallow incuse square. AMNG III, 2, -, cf. 20 (without akanthos flower). Desneux -, cf. 93-4 (unlisted dies). SNG ANS -. An extremely rare variety. Small flan fault on the obverse and with tiny marks, otherwise, about extremely fine. From a European collection, formed before 2005. Estimate: 2500 CHF |
