Lot description: Constantius I. As Caesar, AD 293-305. AV Aureus (18.5mm, 5.06 g, 6h). Treveri (Trier) mint. 1st emission, autumn AD 293-early 294. CONSTA NTIVS N C, laureate head right / IOVI CONS ERVATORI, Jupiter enthroned left, holding thunderbolt in outstretched right hand and scepter in left; at feet to left, eagle standing left, head and tail right, with wings displayed, holding wreath in beak; PTR. RIC VI –; Zanchi & Estiot 14a (CCL 2/ R 6 – this coin, illustrated); Depeyrot –; Calicó 4847a (this coin illustrated). Lustrous, significant smoothing above head on obverse, graffiti on reverse. EF.
