Lot description: Claudius. AD 41-54. AV Aureus (20mm, 7.81 g, 4h). Lugdunum (Lyon) mint. Struck AD 49-50. Laureate head right / DE BRITANN on architrave, triumphal arch, surmounted by an equestrian statue of Claudius left, between two trophies. RIC I 44; von Kaenel Type 31, – (V558/R567 – [unlisted die marriage]); Lyon 60; Calicó 351; BMCRE 49 (same rev. die); BN –; cf. SCBC 633 (for rev. type). Toned, minor edge scrape on reverse. Fine.
