| Lot description: SELEUKID EMPIRE. Antiochos III 'the Great'. 222-187 BC. AR Tetradrachm (26mm, 16.86 g, 12h). Uncertain mint 56, in western Asia Minor (possibly Sardes). Struck circa 192/0-187 BC. Diademed head (Type E) right / BAΣIΛEΩΣ ANTIOXOY, elephant standing right; MH to left, IE to right. SC 987.3 corr. (control to right; same obv. die as referenced coin); HGC 9, 451a. Minor double strike on obverse with worn die, deposits on reverse. Near EF. Extremely rare, apparently the second known of this issue; and the one example published (ANHS 251 = Peus 376, lot 518 = Berk BBS 45, lot 227) has the right field control mark off the flan.
