Lot description: Nero, AD 54-68. Æ sestertius (35 mm; 24,71 g). Lugdunum mint, struck circa AD 65. Laureate head right, globe at point of neck / Birds-eye view of the port of Ostia; eight ships at port, pharos surmounted by statue of Neptune in upper field and a reclining figure of Tiber, holding rudder and dolphin, in lower field; all surrounded by crecent-shaped piers on the left and crescent-shaped breakwaters on the right. Some corrosion and porosity in fields, but still a handsome specimen of this enigmatic type boasting an impressive portrait of Nero and a clear and well detailed depiction of the port of Ostia.
