Lot description: L. Calpurnius Piso Frugi. 90 BC. AR Denarius (17.5mm, 3.50 g, 5h). Rome mint. Laureate head of Apollo right; [illegible Roman numerals] in left field / Horseman, holding palm frond and reins, galloping right; ROMA monogram below, CVII above. Crawford 340/1; Sydenham 661; Calpurnia 12; RBW 1255 var. (controls). Lightly toned with underlying luster, edge chip, struck from a worn obverse die, crystallized. VF. Rare variety, only one with this reverse control in CoinArchives and it was struck from an equally worn obverse die. Fragile. LOT SOLD AS IS, NO RETURNS. Estimate: 100 USD |
