Lot description: MYSIA, Kyzikos. Circa 600-550 BC. Fourrée Myshemihekte – Twenty-fourth Stater (6.5mm, 0.47 g). Forepart of tunny right; pellets around / Quadripartite incuse square. Hurter & Liewald III p. 14, 1; Von Fritze I –; Boston MFA –; SNG BN –; SNG von Aulock 7260; Rosen 413. Breaks in plating, exposing core, earthen deposits, struck with worn obverse die. Good VF. Rare. Hurter & Liewald placed this issue in a section of coins "associated to Kyzikos", as they doubted the attribution based on characteristics of the striking. Of course, the four examples they knew of appeared on the market in isolation. However, more of these have recently come to market alongside contemporary issues definitively placed at Kyzikos, so the attribution to that city should be accepted. Estimate: 150 USD |
