Lot description: Persia, Achaemenid Empire AR 1/48 Stater. Time of Kyros - Darios I, in the types of Kroisos. Sardes, circa 550-520 BC. Head of roaring lion to right / Irregular incuse punch. GRPC Lydia S13 = Naumann 66, 189; CNG e432, 71 (hammer: 1,200 USD); CNG e392, 283; Hauck & Aufhäuser 14, 80. 0.10g, 3mm. Good Very Fine. Very Rare. Thought to have been struck at a time when Lydia was a satrapy of the Achaemenid Empire, this issue copies the types of Kroisos with a lion of the same style as that found on the lion/bull sigloi, while also being struck on the same weight standard.
