Lot description: Aurelian, (A.D. 270-275), billon antoninianus, Serdica Mint, 2nd officina, emission in 273-4, (4.04 g), obv. radiate cuirassed bust right of Aurelian, around IMP AVRELIANVS AVG, rev. SER ON SER around, S in exergue, [Aurelian on the left] receiving a globe from Jupiter on the right, standing left holding long sceptre in his left hand, [See note below for details of double striking on the reverse], (S.11542, RIC 260 (2612 on line), C.105). About extremely fine, a unique striking error, unpublished. The reverse die was used twice (although not affecting the obverse) and as a result repeated the right hand side of the reverse on the left hand side but 180 degrees different, hence the unique clear legend SER [ON] SER, that should have been IOVI CONSER.
