Lot description: Good Very Fine; suspension loop attached, rev. struck from worn die, graffito to rev | BYZANTINE EMPIRE. SILK ROAD REGION(?). Gold solidus, 5th - 7th centuries AD. Imitating the obv. type of Heraclius and Heraclius Constantine and rev. types of earlier 6th century rulers. Obv: blundered and partially retrograde legend around, facing busts of Heraclius and Constantine, each wearing chlamys and simple crown with cross on circlet; cross between their heads above. Rev: VICTORIA AVGIII Δ (partially retrograde), angel standing facing, holding long staff surmounted by staurogram and globus cruciger; CONOB (partially retrograde) in exergue.Good Very Fine; suspension loop attached, rev. struck from worn die, graffito to rev.
